(AURN) -- A top official at the University of Texas at Austin condemned what was dubbed an ''affirmative action bake sale'' held on campus Wednesday.

The campus group known as the Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) sold baked goods with a varying pricing scale based on the ethnicity and gender of customer.

In reaction, Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, UT's vice president for diversity and community engagement said in a statement, “YCT joins a handful of student groups at other universities who over the years have used the same reductive tactic to garner the spotlight for their views on affirmative action. He added,  “Such methods are inflammatory and demeaning.”

According to the pricing chart, Asians paid the highest for baked goods, followed whites, Hispanics and African Americans. Women got a discount.  The event spark outrage from angry students who chanted, "Racists go home."
